How Long Do We Have?

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:

“A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover (more…)

Stella Awards for 2009

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

It’s time again for the annual ‘Stella Awards’! For those unfamiliar with these awards, they are named after 81-year-old Stella Liebeck who spilled hot coffee on herself and successfully sued the McDonald’s in New Mexico, where she purchased the coffee. You remember, she took the lid off the coffee and put it between her knees while she was driving. Who would ever think one could get burned doing that, right? That’s right; these are awards for the most outlandish lawsuits and verdicts in the U.S. You know, the kinds of cases that make you scratch your head. So keep your head scratcher handy.

Tax Day Protest 2010

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

By William J. Dell – 20 April 2010

Yesterday, April 19, was the 235th anniversary of “The shot heard round the world” fired at Concord, NH. I believe it safe to say that King George III and the English Parliament were NOT listening. In 1837 Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote the Concord Hymn:

By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled;
Here once the embattled farmers stood,
And fired the shot heard ‘round the world.’

This year on April 15, I attended the Tax Day Rally in front of the Court House in Hollidaysburg, Blair County, PA. There were, by my unofficial count, some 250 persons in attendance. These Patriots also had “Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled.” I also believe that ‘King’ Barack Obama and the Congress (more…)

After Breakfast Speech

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

By Clifford A. Wright

I was in my neighborhood restaurant this morning and was seated behind a group of jubilant individuals celebrating the successful passing of the recent health care bill. I could not finish my breakfast.

This is what ensued:

They were a diverse group of several races and both sexes. I heard the young man exclaim, “Isn’t Obama like Jesus Christ? I mean, after all, he is healing the sick.” The young woman enthusiastically proclaimed, “Yeah, and he does it for free. I cannot believe anyone would think that a free market would work for health care. They are all crooks and thieves and don’t deserve all of that money.” Another said, ‘The stupid Republicans (more…)

Our National Day of Prayer

In 1952 President Truman established one day a year as a “National Day of Prayer.”

In 1988, President Reagan designated the first Thursday in May of each year as the National Day of Prayer.

In June 2007, (then) Presidential candidate Barack Obama declared (more…)

A Little Term Limit History

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

By William J. Dell – 13 April 2010

I am personally in favor of Term Limits on the members of Congress much like the term limit on the President. The difficulty, as you will read below, is having two-thirds of the House and Senate voting for them. It is difficult to get ANY politician to vote to end their career after twelve years. It might happen if we were to clean house in November of the Progressive incumbents who desire to retain power and replace the Constitutional Republic with a Welfare Socialist State.

In the elections of 1994, part of the Contract on America was to pass legislation setting term limits in Congress. After winning the majority, they brought a constitutional amendment to the House floor that limited members of the Senate to two six-year terms and members of the House (more…)
