First Day of School Speech

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

If every school principal gave this speech at the beginning of the school year, America would be a better place.

To the students and faculty of our high school:

I am your new principal, and honored to be so. There is no greater calling than to teach young people.

I would like to apprise you of some important changes coming to our school. I am making these changes because I am convinced that most of the ideas that have dominated public education in America have worked against you, against you, your teachers and against our country. (more…)

Freedom and Religion

By William J. Dell
Ducit amor Deus et patria !

I make no apology for my faith in God. I make no apology for my belief that God raised up the Founding Fathers to establish this nation as freedom’s beacon of hope in a world of darkness. Nor do I apologize for my belief that the Founding Fathers were inspired by that same God to write our Declaration of Independence and our Constitution. I firmly believe that without His “almighty hand” leading the colonists our Constitutional Republic would not have been established. I also firmly believe that without God’s “almighty hand” leading us today our Constitutional Republic cannot be saved and restored to it original greatness.

One of the main troubles with our nation today can be summed up in the words of Thomas Paine, “What we obtain too cheaply, we esteem too lightly; ’tis dearness only that gives everything its value. Heaven knows how to put a price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as freedom should not be highly rated.”

The majority of the citizenry of our nation have taken no thought for the freedom they enjoy because it has been handed to them. They do not even remember those (more…)

Debt – who is at fault ??

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Just to set the record straight. This is especially for those buying in on the ‘Its All Bush’s Fault’ whine from Obama.

The Washington Post babbled again today about Obama inheriting a huge deficit from Bush. Amazingly enough, a lot of people swallow this nonsense. So once more, a short civics lesson.

Budgets do not come from the White House. They come from Congress, and the party that controlled Congress since January 2007 is the Democrat Party. They controlled the budget process for Fiscal Year 2008 and Fiscal Year 2009 as well as Fiscal Year 2010 and Fiscal Year 2011. In that first year, they had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending, when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases.

For Fiscal Year 2009 though, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep government running until Barack Obama could take office. At that time, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the Fiscal Year 2009 budgets. And where was Barack Obama during this time? He was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as President to complete FY 2009. Let’s remember what the deficits looked like during that period:

If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the FY 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets. That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending. After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets. If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself.

In a nutshell, what Obama is saying is I inherited a deficit that I voted for and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since January 20th.

Global Warming?

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

The Washington Post

The Arctic ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot, according to a report to the Commerce Department yesterday from Consulafft, at Bergen, Norway. Reports from fishermen, seal hunters and explorers all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-of temperatures in the Arctic zone.
Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice has been met as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes. Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm. Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared.

Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds. Within a few years it is predicted that due to the ice melt the sea will rise and make most coastal cities uninhabitable.

I neglected to mention that this report was from November 2, 1922, reported by the AP and published in The Washington Post - nearly 88 years ago!

The Battle Belongs to the Lord

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

By William J. Dell

It is the year of our Lord Two Thousand Ten and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred thirty-fourth. Today there are many within our nation who fear that our Constitutional Republic established by God through our Founding Fathers is being destroyed by the very people sworn to protect it. Perhaps We the People need to be reminded of two adages with regards to our struggle to preserve our Constitutional Republic: “Let us work as if everything depends on us, and pray as if everything depends on God,” and “Let us have faith that right makes might, and in that faith, let us, to the end, dare to do our duty as we understand it.” – Abraham Lincoln

Beginning in the early twentieth century, there emerged a new body politic that adopted progressive ideals which are not in keeping with the constitutional principles that made our country great and the beacon of hope in a world of darkness. It is a body politic that refuses to honor their sworn duty to protect and defend our Divinely inspired Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic. In fact, this body politic has become our Constitution’s most aggressive and deadly domestic enemy as they strive to change our Constitutional Republic into a Welfare Socialist State.

You may ask, “Who are these politicians?” (more…)

Culture Crisis

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Dear Mr. President:

During my shift in the Emergency Room last night, I had the pleasure of evaluating a patient whose smile revealed an expensive shiny gold tooth, whose body was adorned with a wide assortment of elaborate and costly tattoos, who wore a very expensive brand of tennis shoes and who chatted on a new cellular telephone equipped with a popular R&B ringtone.

While glancing over her patient chart, I happened to notice that her payer status was listed as “Medicaid”! During my examination of her, the patient informed me that she smokes more than one costly pack of cigarettes every day and somehow still has money to buy pretzels and beer.

And, you and our Congress expect me to pay for this woman’s health care? I contend that our nation’s “health care crisis” is not the result of a shortage of quality hospitals, doctors or nurses. Rather, it is the result of a “crisis of culture”. A culture in which it is perfectly acceptable to spend money on luxuries and vices while refusing to take care of one’s self or, heaven forbid, purchase health insurance. It is a culture based in the irresponsible credo that “I can do whatever I want to because someone else will always take care of me”.

Once you fix this “culture crisis” that rewards irresponsibility and dependency, you’ll be amazed at how quickly our nation’s health care difficulties will disappear.

History Mystery

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Have a history teacher explain this — if they can.

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.
John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.
John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.
Both wives lost their children while living in the White House.

Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.
Both Presidents were shot in the head.

Now it gets really weird.

Lincoln’s secretary was named Kennedy.
Kennedy’s Secretary was named Lincoln .

Both were assassinated by Southerners.
Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson.

Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808.
Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.

John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839.
Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.

Both assassins were known by their three names.
Both names are composed of fifteen letters.

Now hang on to your seat.

Lincoln was shot at the theater named ‘Ford’.
Kennedy was shot in a car called’ Lincoln ‘ made by ‘Ford’.

Lincoln was shot in a theater and his assassin ran and hid in a warehouse.
Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and his assassin ran and hid in a theater.

Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials..

And here’s the kicker…

A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland.
A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe.

WHO FIGURED THIS OUT?!

Mormons: An Appreciation

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

By David French

I know that I’m going to get in trouble in some quarters for the following statement, but I’m going to say it anyway. I love Mormons, and I deeply appreciate the role played by the LDS church in our nation and our culture. I have returned from a lengthy absence from EFM (I was out of town working hard on my day job) to find a debate in these pages about whether Mormonism is a “cult,” flipped on the TV to see a two part special about Mormonism on PBS, and turned on my computer today to see this absurd column by Robert Novak demanding that Mitt Romney account for a massacre that occurred 150 years ago. Given these times, I thought I’d take a moment to write a post that is perhaps a bit outside the EFM (i.e. political) umbrella and share with you my own perspective on Mormonism. [Note: EFM – Evangelicals for Mitt ]

We live in tough times. Faith is under attack – from within and without. I know there are some folks out there who deride such comments, but I ask those people who do to walk not a mile but a few feet in my shoes. In moments, you would hear from people of faith from across this country who are silenced, intimidated, and sometimes subjected to vile threats and abuse merely for standing for Biblical values and fundamental rights. Yes, Christians have political power in some quarters, but in others – such as (more…)

War on Terror and Carbon Emissions

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

By Mark Beres, Maj. USAF (ret.)
Tucson, Arizona

Nobody can be this stupid and still be compatible with life!

You will simply not believe this. Our 8th District US Congressional representative, the Hon. Gabrielle Giffords, in a meeting of the House Armed Services Committee, asked General David Petraeus the following question: “General Petraeus, what are you doing to reduce carbon emissions in the war on terror?”

Wow. I had to read, and re-read this several times to believe it. Folks, there are American sons and daughters dying every week on the foreign battlefields of southwest Asia. The nation is completely bankrupt and … quite literally, borrowing 43 cents for every dollar in federal spending. We have the largest environmental disaster in the nation’s history in the Gulf of Mexico, and we have Mexican drug armies invading our nation. And yet …. A member of Congress from Arizona’s 8th congressional district took the time to ask our battlefield commander what he is doing to curb carbon emissions in the war.

Gabrielle Giffords is the poster-child for what is wrong with the US Congress. We are being led by imbeciles. To the rest of America reading this blog, and to Gen. Petraeus if this e-mail makes it to your inbox … my sincerest apologies for the stupid question asked of you by my US congressional representative. General … I am sure you have better things to worry about than carbon emissions on the battlefield. I assure you, as a registered voter in Arizona’s 8th congressional district, I will do everything I can to ensure Rep. Giffords is voted out of office in November, and I pray you’ll get back to business of fighting the war on terror without worrying about such petty and nonsensical matters as your carbon footprint in the war.
