ObamaCare and Freedom of Religion

William J. Dell –
Amore Dei, Familiae, Patriae ducit !

Well did Thomas Paine say, “What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly rated.”

After Alexis de Tocqueville, a French Jurist, visited America in 1831, he wrote, “I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her commodious harbors and her ample rivers, and it was not there; in her fertile fields and boundless prairies, and it was not there; in her rich mines and her vast world commerce, and it was not there.  Not until I went to the churches of America and heard her pulpits aflame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power.  America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.”

This great nation was founded by those fleeing religious persecution from the tyrannical governments of Europe. Religious liberty was of so great importance to them and our Founding Fathers that they ensured our right to religious freedom as item one in our Bill of Rights. The First Amendment of our Constitution states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; . . .” [Emphasis added.]

On 29 January, from the pulpits of every Catholic Parish in the United States, a letter was read (more…)

The Commerce Clause

Article I. Section 8. of our Constitution has a clause which has become known as the “Commerce Clause.” This clause states that the Congress shall have power – “To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes.” [Emphasis added.] The effect of this clause is a grant of power to the federal government by We the People to regulate inter-state commerce between or “among the several States” but NOT intra-state commerce since intra-state commerce is contained within the boundary of a single State. This coupled with the Tenth Amendment which states, “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people” has been a powerful check on the federal government’s intrusion into We the People’s private and personal business affairs.

An understanding of the Commerce Clause is very important for We the People. This is particularly true in the case of healthcare. The Affordable Health Care for America Act (ObamaCare) is presently before the Supreme Court. Many believe, including twenty-six States Attorney Generals, that ObamaCare violates the Commerce Clause as it requires individual citizens to purchase health insurance. This writer agrees with the States Attorney Generals’ position as explained in the following.

Regulation of insurance has always been a States Right. Each of the several States have their own (more…)

Pam’s Story

He is being mocked and ridiculed but he keeps bending that knee!!!

In a recent email, I read about a woman named Pam, who knows the pain of considering abortion. More than 24 years ago, she and her husband Bob were serving as missionaries to the Philippines and praying for a fifth child. Pam contracted amoebic dysentery, an infection of the intestine caused by a parasite found in contaminated food or drink. She went into a coma and was treated with strong antibiotics before they discovered she was pregnant.

Doctors urged her to abort the baby for her own safety and (more…)

The Conscience of a Christian Conservative

Friday, January 6th, 2012

By William J. Dell
Amore Dei, Familiae, Patriae ducit !

We, as a nation, are once again in the throws of a Presidential election. In just eleven months we will have to decide which direction we want our Constitutional Republic to go. The choice this election cycle is clearly one of the most, if not the most, critical We the People have had to make in our 225 years as a Constitutional Republic. The question of this election is nothing more nor less than do We the People want to remain a Constitutional Republic or do we want to move further to the Left toward Totalitarianism, remain a Republic just right of center,  or further to the Right toward Anarchy.

There are those on the Left, the Socialist-DINOs and the Progressives of both parties, who clearly want us to continue our march toward a totalitarian Welfare Socialist State with those in power forming an oligarchy while We the People become servants [slaves] dependent on the federal government. There are those on the Right, Libertarians and the extreme far-right, who clearly want us to move toward Anarchy with absolute freedom without restriction. Correct thinking Americans, including Christian conservatives, would prefer that we have Constitutional Restoration where the federal government is the servant and We the People are the rulers. This is the position that our Founding Fathers gave to us along the continuum between Totalitarianism and Anarchy. A position often referred to as “just right of center.”

There are many Americans, including Christian conservatives, who seem to agree that our Constitutional Republic is infected (more…)

Tolerance and Acceptance

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

By William J. Dell
Amore Dei, Familiae, Patriae ducit !

Tolerance and Acceptance are mutually exclusive of each other. One cannot be both tolerant and accepting at the same time because once a tolerant person become accepting of any attitude or activity there is no longer any reason to be tolerant of that attitude or activity. The difficulty with these mutually exclusive terms in civil society is that minority groups tend to define “tolerance” as “acceptance.” This tends to place the civil society in the position of “the tail wagging the dog.”

In a civil society where families and individuals come together to form a community, state or nation those forming the civil society have a right to determine the parameters and limits of their mutual association. They may be tolerant of persons within their midst holding differing attitudes but they as a society do not have to accept the minority attitudes for their society.

Those with the minority attitudes are at liberty to go elsewhere and establish a civil society based upon their attitudes and activities as a majority. Such was the case with those who fled Europe to the New World so that they could worship God according to the dictates of their own conscience. It is interesting that once here they set up their “civil societies” based upon similar intolerance that they had just fled. For example, in New England if you did not belong to the “accepted” church of the several colonies, you were not permitted to own land or hold elective office.

Following this standard the majority of the thirteen colonies and later the original thirteen States had established “state religions” albeit they were all “Christian” religions. In fact, Roger Williams and Anne Hutchinson, who formed the “civil society” of Rhode Island were expelled (more…)

Where Are the Americans of Today?

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

By William J. Dell
Amore Dei, Familiae, Patriae ducit !

During the American Revolution there were approximately three million citizens in the thirteen colonies. Of these about one million were Americans seeking independence, about one million were Tories loyal to the Crown, and the remaining one million were “fence-sitters” waiting to see which way to jump or they just did not care about Liberty and Freedom one way or the other.

I am grateful to our Founding Fathers and their American compatriots who labored and fought so diligently to win our independence and secure our unalienable rights from our Creator to Life, Liberty, and Property. I am grateful to the American patriots who fought to preserve the Union while we were in the crucible of Civil War. I am also grateful for all Americans who have striven throughout our history to “secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.” Those who maintained a deep and abiding faith in our Constitutional Republic, our founding documents and the desire that their posterity would have a better America than they had received from their forefathers. For a greater truth has never been spoken than this, “To maintain the American way of life and pass it intact to succeeding generations is the responsibility of every true American.”

Why is it that our Founding Fathers and their compatriots were so fearlessly and determinedly American and We the People of today are not? There must be some cause, some good reason, why the Founding Fathers and their compatriots were so eager for Liberty then, and now We the People are eager for the servitude of the Welfare Socialist State?

Why are there so many divided Americans in our nation today? Why have they forgotten the essence of the expression on the Great Seal of the United States – E pluribus unum [Out of many, one]? What has happened to the once “great melting pot” that forged a great nation out of self-reliance, self-determination and the universal opportunity to try, to strive, to succeed or to fail? Why has America become the “great sectional plate” divided by class and ethnicity? Could it be that Americans have forgotten what it means to be an American? (more…)

Parental Advice to OWS Protestors

MY SENTIMENTS EXACTLY

Some belated parental advice to protesters.

Call it an occupational hazard, but I can’t look at the Occupy Wall Street protesters without thinking, “Who parented these people?”

As a culture columnist, I’ve commented on the social and political ramifications of the “movement” — now known as “OWS” — whose fairyland agenda can be summarized by one of their placards: “Everything for everybody.”

Thanks to their pipe-dream platform, it’s clear there are people with serious designs on “transformational” change in America who are using the protesters like bedsprings in a brothel.

Yet it’s not my role as a commentator that prompts my parenting question, but rather the fact that I’m the mother of four teens and young adults. There are some crucial life lessons that the protesters’ moms clearly have not passed along.

Here, then, are five things the OWS protesters’ mothers should have taught their children but obviously didn’t, so I will: (more…)

NOTICE TO THE GUN WALKER-IN-CHIEF

Don’t mess with our Second Ammendment Rights.
We know what you were trying to do with Fast & Furious, Shame on you & Holder!!!

Never thought of this! Something to think about.

True story and most people will never know it. Here’s an interesting side bar. After the Japanese decimated our fleet in Pearl Harbor Dec 7, 1941, they could have sent their troop ships and carriers directly to California To finish what they started. The prediction from our Chief of Staff was we would not be able to stop a Massive invasion until they reached the Mississippi River.

Remember, we had a 2 million man army and war ships all fighting the Germans. So, why did they not invade? After the war, the remaining Japanese generals and admirals were asked that question. Their answer – They knew that almost every home had guns and the Americans knew how to use them. The world’s largest army – America ‘s hunters! I had never thought about this. (more…)
