2010 Elections – Reflections and Concerns

By William J. Dell – 3 November 2010

So, We the People have spoken once again and the 2010 Midterm Election is history. Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto was the naval commander responsible for our defeat at Pearl Harbor. He is reported to have said after winning the battle, “I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.” As the Democratic Party and President Obama reflect on yesterday’s election results they might well reflect on the Admiral’s statement. America has repudiated the agenda of the Obama-Pelosi-Reid team and their desire to move our Constitutional Republic to a Welfare Socialist State. Why? Because Americans continue to maintain their historical political position which has been and remains right-of-center.

As the pendulum swings from the “far” left Socialist-Progressive agenda of the past two years, We the People need to remain vigilant so that the Obama-Pelosi-Reid crowd do NOT run amok during the “lame-duck” session of the 111th Congress. They, the Socialist-Progressives, still have fifty-nine (59) days of power in which to slip “sour-grapes” socialist legislation in under the radar if We the People, the sleeping giant, go back to sleep thinking we have done our duty.

They, the Socialist-Progressives, will still try to enact their agenda to increase taxes rather than reduce spending and shrink the size of the Federal Government back to Constitutional limits. They will try to do this with a Value Added Tax (VAT), with a Transaction Tax, etc. We the People have voted them and their agenda out of office, but they do NOT leave Washington for another fifty-nine (59) days. They will NOT go quietly, you can depend on that. They will try to accomplish ALL that they can while they still have power. They will do this by making the taxes very small — 1%, but We the People need to remember that the Income Tax also started as 1%. They will try and sell it by saying that they will repeal the Income Tax as they transition, but they won’t. They won’t because they still believe that they know how to spend your money better than you do. They have always, and will forever, be about increasing their power, destroying the Tenth Amendment and making “slaves” of We the People.

Then there are the incoming freshmen representatives and senators. Are they going to be true Statesmen and live up to their oath of office to “protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic?” We will have to wait and see this will also require us to be “eternally vigilant” which is the price of liberty. If they are Statesmen, they will have the interests of the nation foremost in their hearts and minds as the Founding Fathers did. If they are Statesmen, they will repeal the destructive laws of the past two years and begin to dismantle the 100 year old Progressive entitlement structure which has been and is continuing to destroy our Republic and to make slaves of our posterity. If however the incoming freshmen representatives and senators succumb to the “power” of Congressional office, they will be no better than the Politicians who were voted out. Politicians whose only interest was “self” and the preservation of the power that they have garnered by virtue of the trust of We the People.

Don’t forget either that the 2012 Presidential Campaign also begins in January 2011. So my fellow Freedom-Fighters, we may have won the battle of November 2010, but there are many more battles to be won State-by-State in the campaign of 2012. Keep your guard up! Keep the sleeping giant awake because there is much to do. We the People have NOT saved the Constitution and the Republic it established yet!! So the contest for the hearts and minds of We the People goes on!

May God Bless and Save the United States of America!
