Freedom and Religion

By William J. Dell – 25 August 2010
Ducit amor Deus et patria !

I make no apology for my faith in God. I make no apology for my belief that God raised up the Founding Fathers to establish this nation as freedom’s beacon of hope in a world of darkness. Nor do I apologize for my belief that the Founding Fathers were inspired by that same God to write our Declaration of Independence and our Constitution. I firmly believe that without His “almighty hand” leading the colonists our Constitutional Republic would not have been established. I also firmly believe that without God’s “almighty hand” leading us today our Constitutional Republic cannot be saved and restored to it original greatness.

One of the main troubles with our nation today can be summed up in the words of Thomas Paine, “What we obtain too cheaply, we esteem too lightly; ’tis dearness only that gives everything its value. Heaven knows how to put a price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as freedom should not be highly rated.”

The majority of the citizenry of our nation have taken no thought for the freedom they enjoy because it has been handed to them. They do not even remember those who paid the price of freedom. Fourth of July parades have turned into advertisement floats for businesses and a free candy store for those along the parade route. Memorial Day programs are near extinct. The patriots who gave us our freedom more than 250 years ago are forgotten. The Grand Army of the Republic that preserved the Union nearly 150 years ago is also forgotten. The “dough boys” are all but gone; and, the “greatest generation” are dying at approximately 1000 per day. Both of these are but a distant memory. Grandfathers and great-grandfathers who fought to preserve freedom during the “Cold War” were pushed aside and forgotten by an ungrateful nation. The patriotism of September 11, 2001 has waned and many would just as soon forget the War on Terror and let freedom die rather than pay the price to maintain it.

As great as these sins are, there is a more serious and fatal sin for which we in this nation must repent. We have forgotten the very God by whom this Constitutional Republic was established. We have forgotten the faith of our fathers and mothers. In the name of political correctness, we as a nation have turned from the very Judeo-Christian principles which made this land a beacon of hope to the world.

Judicial activists have unconstitutionally made Atheism and Secular Humanism the state religion of the United States in violation of the First Amendment. They have done this by eliminating any public Judeo-Christian expression whatsoever. They have turned our Constitutionally guaranteed Right to “freedom of religion” into freedom from religion.

During my high school graduation, prayers were offered by a Catholic cleric, a Protestant minister, and a Rabbi. The audience was respectful during all. This is tolerance. Prohibiting the free expression of religion by the majority Judeo-Christian community across this nation for the past 50 years is not tolerance. It is intolerant discrimination!

Most recently, American Atheists won a law suit in Utah over crosses honoring fallen Utah Troopers. Crosses approved by the families of the fallen. When are other than Christian religions, including Atheists, going to show tolerance of the majority Christian populace? They demand tolerance, but show absolutely no tolerance themselves toward the majority of Christian Americans.

Then there is the issue of the Mosque at “Ground Zero.” The Imam, who avows Sharia, would have us believe that he is a moderate. But where is his tolerance, as taught by the Koran, for the survivors of the nearly 3000 lost in the Jihadist attack on our nation? Islam may be a religion, but Radical Islam, as practiced by the Jihadists who support Sharia, is NOT a religion. It is a political movement. A political movement bent on world domination just as Hitler and the Third Reich was. It appears that most of this generation of the “Western World” seem to be as asleep, as our ancestors of the “greatest generation” were concerning Hitler, in allowing the present threat of Radical Islam to come to power.

Wake up, America! It is ALWAYS less costly to preserve freedom than it is to regain freedom. If we lose our freedom, to regain that freedom will require the loss of much blood. And in the words of Ronald Reagan, “Those who lose their freedom will never regain it in their lifetime.”

There are things worth dying for! I for one believe that our Founding Fathers knew and understood this. That is why they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to the cause of liberty. They died that we, as individuals and a nation, might have the freedom we enjoy today. Will we do as much to pass on freedom, liberty, and the American Ideal to our posterity?

So good friends, I make no apology for my faith in God and respect for His divine law of liberty. Freedom and religion are inseparable. Our next move as Americans is to repent of our crimes against God, ourselves, and our posterity. If we expect His help in the fight to save our Constitutional Republic, we must do as He requires, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” [2 Chronicles 7:14]

It has fallen to our lot, my fellow freedom-fighters, and to all Americans who want to preserve religious and political freedom, to pick up the now fragmented pieces of our divine Constitutional Law and save it from final destruction. We thank you all who have joined with us in the fight for freedom and liberty.

May God Bless and Save the United States of America!

”Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” — John Adams
