Is the Constitution of the United States a Sacred Text?

William J. Dell – 12 January 2011
Amore Dei, Familiae, Patriae ducit !

On 5 January, the 112th Congress was sworn in and John Boehner became Speaker of the House. On 6 January, the Speaker scheduled the reading of the “revised” Constitution [our 1787 Constitution, as amended], in its entirety, on the floor of the House with the Members participating in the reading. This writer believes that perhaps it should be read monthly. I believe it would be 90 minutes well spent and perhaps keep our elected Representatives on track as they go about We the People’s business.

Those on the left denigrated this move for various reasons. Some Members, on the left, even boycotted the reading. One Member’s, Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) the previous Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, denigration was a criticism that “They are reading it like a sacred text…” Mr. Nadler, many Americans do regard our Constitution as a “sacred text.” I am pleased to be considered one of these “true” Americans.

I do not think that anyone would disagree that the Constitution is a text. After all, it is a written document delimiting [setting the boundaries] the powers granted to the Federal Government by We the People. So the rub seems to be if it is “sacred.” Webster defines sacred as: 1. dedicated or set apart for the service or worship of deity; 2. devoted exclusively to one service or use (as of a person or purpose).

Our Constitution is certainly “devoted exclusively to one service or use.” That use, or purpose, was and is to empower We the People to be a government of, by and for the people. That purpose was to establish and maintain a Republic, not a Democracy, where our “elected representatives” are the SERVANTS of We the People rather than our RULERS. So my fellow Freedom-Fighters, it would seem that Webster would agree that the Constitution can be described as a “sacred text.”

May every American find a special place in their heart for this “sacred text,” our divinely inspired Constitution, and the Republic which it established. May every American find the time to READ and STUDY our “sacred text,” our Constitution, so that We the People might hold our elected representatives, our SERVANTS, accountable for their actions and the laws they enact. May we do this so We the People might continue as the Preamble states to “secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.” May we do this so the “Rights” contained in the first Ten Amendments, our Bill of Rights, might NOT be infringed upon by our SERVANTS, our elected representatives.

We the People, as individuals and as a nation, should also be very concerned with ALL those, within and without, including our elected and appointed representatives, who have trouble acknowledging our “sacred text” and its purpose. Can the motives of such individuals and/or groups be right or good for our Constitutional Republic or the FREEDOM we all hope to maintain and enjoy. Such motives cannot as the Preamble of that “sacred text” suggests “secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.”

If the motives and actions of these individuals and groups cannot support the delimited Federal Government contained in our divinely inspired Constitution and which established our Constitutional Republic, with We the People as RULERS, what do their motives support? Could it be that they support one of the following:

  • The Welfare Socialist State making government the ruler rather than the servant of We the People.
  • The one world government movement, of George Sorus and his ilk, with their oligarchy as the ruler rather than We the People.
  • A worldwide Theocracy of Islam under Sharia Law with a Caliph as ruler rather than We the People.

In all of these cases, their motives and “overt” efforts and/or actions to destroy our Constitutional Republic through legislative, executive, judicial or any other means are treasonous as defined by Article. III. Section. 3. of our Constitution, our “sacred text:”

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court. [Emphasis added.]

We the People need to be aware of our “Enemies” within and without who would enslave us by destroying our Constitutional Republic in favor of one the three threats listed above. Each of these threats would make us, We the People, the SERVANT rather than the RULER.

We the People, each of us, need to take action!

  1. Each of us must READ and STUDY our “sacred text,” our divinely inspired Constitution and our Declaration of Independence. We the People’s FREEDOM does hang in the balance; and, if FREEDOM is lost in our Constitutional Republic, the United States of America, the light of liberty will be extinguished throughout the world.
  2. Each of us must then let our elected representatives know that we are watching and that we expect them to conform and limit their service to that which We the People have granted in our “sacred text,” our Constitution.

“Eternal vigilance is the price of freedom.”
