09. Courage and Fortitude

Amore Dei, Familiae, Patriae ducit !

In restoring our nation to the great principles of our Founding Fathers, it is important that we remember the counsel of Thomas Jefferson, “In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock.” Let us go forward then and continue to “secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity” by forsaking all vestiges of personal selfishness for the good of our Constitutional Republic.

Great leaders of the past, in nations that have lost their glory, sounded the certain trumpet. Their pleas went unheeded and their nations declined and passed into history. We, as a nation, need to learn from their experience. There was Demosthenes in 341 BC who said, “There must be some cause, some good reason, why the Greeks were so eager for liberty then, and now are eager for servitude.” And what of Cato who said of the Roman Empire in 63 BC, “Our liberties, our lives, are in danger.” And in our own time during the 1960s, Ezra Taft Benson, former Secretary of Agriculture in the Eisenhower administration, had this to say, “To the patriots I say this: Take that long eternal look. Stand up for freedom no matter what the cost. It can help save your soul – and maybe your country.”

We are engaged in a conflict for the hearts and minds of a nation. To maintain the American way of life and pass it intact to succeeding generations is the responsibility of every true American. Will we accept the responsibility to pass to our posterity the heritage of our Founding Fathers or will we sit by and leave them the decline of a Welfare Socialist State?

We, as a nation and a people, must find the courage and maintain the fortitude:

1. That our parents exhibited in their fight for freedom and liberty against the Axis Powers of World War II.

2. That our ancestors exhibited in the crucible of our Civil War as they fought to maintain “government of the people, by the people, for the people.”

3. That the Minutemen and our Founding Fathers exhibited in the fight for our independence from a tyrannical King George III and his English Parliament.

It is only when we have their resolve and their courage and fortitude that we will be able to defeat, those within and without, who would change our Constitutional Republic and deny “the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.” We, as individuals and as a nation, can do this. We, as a nation, MUST DO THIS.

Courage and Fortitude –
This is a Patriot’s Responsibility!
