This section of the Freedom-Fighters Forum is chronological listing of statements and documents which illuminate our heritage of Liberty and Freedom. It is dedicated to those men and women throughout history who have stood up for Freedom no matter what the cost. Those who by their words and actions have demonstrated that the “Light of Liberty radiated in their soul because the Fire of Freedom burned fearlessly and determinedly [fiercely] in their heart not just for themselves but for all men everywhere.”

“LIBERTY will not descend to a people;
people must raise themselves to LIBERTY;
it is a Blessing that must be Earned
before it can be Enjoyed.”

Charles Caleb Colton

For what avail the plow or sail,
Or land, or life, if freedom fail?

Ralph Waldo Emerson

“It is the common fate of the indolent
to see their rights become a prey to the active.
The condition upon which God has given Liberty to man
is eternal vigilance.”

John Philpot Curran

Our Fathers’ God, to Thee
Author of Liberty,
To Thee we sing;
Long may our land be bright
With Freedom’s holy light;
Protect us by Thy might,
Great God, our King!,

Samuel F. Smith

“Man has slaved through the ages that we might be free. He has battled that we might have peace. He has studied that we might know. He has left us the heritage of the ages that we in our turn might carry it on.” – Angelo Patri

Edward Gibbon, in 1788, set forth in his famous book, “Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire,” five basic reasons why that great civilization withered and died:

1. The undermining of the dignity and sanctity of the home, which is the basis for human society.

2. Higher and higher taxes; the spending of public money for free bread and circuses for the populace.

3. The mad craze for pleasure, with sports and plays becoming more exciting, more brital and mor immoral.

4. The building of great armaments when the real enemy was within – the decay of individual responsibility.

5. The decay of religion, whose leaders lost their touch with life, and their power to guide the people.

In the Preamble of our Constitution, our Founding Fathers stated one of its purposes as being to “secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.”
